The Meddling Media - The Jennifer Lawrence Scandal

As many have noticed recently from their news-feed on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites, it is disgusting to learn we live in such a immoral world; people are HAPPY about private photos of actresses being exploited and shared over the web. Yes, I am referring specifically to the semi-naked photos of Jennifer Lawrence which were recently leaked on the internet.

To look deeper is to see the real scare behind this subject, it could happen to any one of us. What we do in our private life, whether we are a celebrity or not should not be splashed around the internet for people to share worldwide. This invasion of privacy is a shocking reality that everything we do is monitored whether we are aware of it or not.
For me, it is unnerving that people would revel in something that deeply embarrasses and humiliates another human being.  Lets face it, no one expects a person to hack into their private phone and share it worldwide and I'm sure everyone has some photo on their photo stream to be ashamed of. I must say I loved how Jennifer Lawrence reacted to this so-called 'scandal', speaking publicly about how she was not ashamed (and she shouldn't be) because the photos were taken in privacy and for her and her boyfriends eyes only.

Moving away from the Jennifer Lawrence story, the current app of 'Messenger' for Facebook is another topic being discussed and also scrutinized. It has come to everyone's attention that this app is not one to help socialize with friends instead invades your privacy stored on your phone, whether it be your pictures, your videos or even your phone contacts.

The reason I mention this is because people think the Jennifer Lawrence scandal is a lot farther from home than it actually is. However, it is important for people to place themselves in her shoes. If personal items on your phone were leaked from attaining the messenger app,  I'm sure you wouldn't be sharing it on all social media platforms and laughing about it. The harsh reality that personal privacy has disappeared is coming to light more and more in modern day, evidently shown from this scandal and from the acknowledgement of the messenger app and all it is capable of.

Some may think this is more of a rant than a blog, but I am writing this on the sole basis that people read this and think about what they are viewing and think about the reality of the consequences, because no one should praise those of the world who share people's private life. Maybe if people reacted differently, people like those who hacked Jennifer Lawrence's phone wouldn't feel the need to leak private photos, because they would receive abuse as apposed to appraisal.

How do you feel about this issue? Be sure to get in touch to share your opinions!
