NothingBut nourishment, NothingBut goodness: A foodie snack review

With portraits of nutritional eats filling our Instagram feeds, and the likes of healthy foodies Deliciously Ella and Madeleine Shaw changing the way we look at our diets, it's safe to say that 2016 has become a big year for clean eating. So, let's talk about the newest nibbles available on the market: healthy snacks by a brand called NothingBut. NothingBut's bags of joy are the first frozen dried snack available right now: a revolution for the snacking industry. This means us guys and gals finally have a guilt-free snack to fill our hangry tummies during that lengthy period between breakfast and lunchtime!

I was lucky enough to try and test a whole hamper of NothingBut snacks. Once received, I frantically unwrapped the beautiful, ribboned packaging and dived straight in!

The snacks come in the form of fruit and vegetables which are frozen and dried to make a super healthy snack. The 'Crisp tasty fruit' range includes: Pineapple & Grape, Apple & Fig and Strawberry & Banana. Whereas, the 'Crisp tasty vegetable' range consists of: Sliced Betroot & Parsnip, Mange Tout & Red Pepper and Pea & Sweetcorn. So, there are plenty of flavours for your taste-buds to explore. The flavours included in my hamper were Pineapple & Grape, Strawberry & Banana and Sliced Betroot.

We all know sometimes what we expect a healthy snack to taste like and what it actually tastes like, can be two completely different things. However, when opening my first bag (the Pineapple and Grape snack-pack) I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty the contents were, considering it was only 40 calories for the whole packet.

The joyful little packs really do create that feel-good feeling, even after gobbling up the whole bag in under a minute! I would say my favourite out of the three would be the 'Pineapple & Grape' snack, being sweet but also tangy in flavour and full of feel-good nutrients that make you feel really refreshed. I could eat this succulent snack over and over again that's for sure, but unfortunately that would defeat the product's whole concept! The Strawberry and Banana was obviously super tasty too. This delectable bag includes a juicy selection of dried strawberries and banana chips and although wonderful on it's own, this bag in particular would be perfect sprinkled on porridge, or added to a bowl of Greek-style yoghurt.

The 'Parsnip & Beetroot' bag was probably my least favourite NothingBut snack. Although I love vegetable crisps, the Parsnip slices weren't as flavoursome as I would've liked, however the Beetroot slices tasted great. Then again, it's down to personal preference and though this was my least favourite, it doesn't mean I wouldn't hoover up the bag all over again. I did enjoy how grease-free this snack bag was too. Countless times I have nibbled on vegetable crisps by other brands and had to rid my hands of grease and salt afterwards. This certainly isn't the case with this product: what you see really is what you get with NothingBut snacks, which differs from other healthy snacks currently available on the market.

What's fab about NothingBut snacks is when tapping it into your MyFitnessPal app, it doesn't eat up your calorie allowance, as the contents only equal to 26-76 calories per bag. The delectable delights are perfect on the go, packed up for the office or even to munch on before hitting the gym. They are also ideal as a topping on that all important breakfast porridge before a long, tiresome day ahead. You could even swap the usual popcorn at the cinema for a sweet NothingBut treat. There are plenty of occasions that NothingBut snacks can replace....

There are so many wonderful health benefits of these snacks too, which makes the NothingBut brand stand out from the crowd. All flavours count as one of your 5 a day, as well as being vegan and veggie friendly. These snacks are also perfect for curing those sweet sugar cravings. Even better, they are free from added sugar (hurray), and therefore provide a guilt-free snacking experience.

Another great thing about NothingBut snacks is, they can be bought online from a number of companies, including everyone's familiar friends: Holland and Barrett, Amazon and Lloyds Pharmacy, who are just a few of many stocking these new, yummy snacks.

If you're reading this as a fellow Hullian, the closest shop to toddle to for these tasty treats is 'Health Matters', located in Hessle Square.
